E85 Flexible Fuel Vehicles

Still Burning Gasoline? We Have a Solution. You may already be driving a vehicle capable of using a new fuel, called E85. Flexible fuel vehicles or FFVs can be fueled on any blend of E85 and/or gasoline. If you are not certain if yours is an FFV, check under the fuel lid for a decal that indicates the use of either fuel or check out the latest FFV list on the reverse of this sheet. E85 Benefits

• E85 reduces demand for oil imported from the Middle East and other politically unstable regions. Minnesota has no petroleum resources and we must import all that we use. This dependence seriously impacts our national security and our economy.

• Ethanol is renewable. Minnesota ethanol is made from starch found in corn and cheese-making byproducts. Keep Using E85… We’ll Grow More!

• E85 is a safe and fully approved fuel made from 85% ethyl alcohol (ethanol) and just 15% petroleum. Use of E85 is approved by all flexible fuel vehicle manufacturers.

• E85 is cleaner. E85 reduces ozone-forming pollution by 20% and greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 30%.

• Ethanol is less toxic. Gasoline contains compounds like benzene, toluene, and xylene. Use of E85 reduces the release of these chemicals into our environment.

• E85 has a 105 octane rating and provides a boost in engine horsepower. It burns cooler than gasoline and keeps your engine clean.

• E85 is typically priced lower than gasoline. We trust that you’ll find the better performance, lower price and economic, environmental and national security benefits will outweigh a slight fuel economy loss your FFV will experience when using E85.

• Ethanol degrades quickly in water-this reduces the threat from gasoline spills and leaks.

Minnesota has led America in using ethanol-blended gasoline. You’ve been using ethanol for years. Now, Minnesotans are leading development of E85 with 100+ fueling stations. E85 Flexible Fuel Vehicles (FFVs)
